Bollywood performer Zarine Khan of Veer fame will get the brave man to Animals' award from People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) for rescuing a cat.
The performer who is an animal fan rescued a malnourished cat from the streets of Mumbai and rushed her to a veterinary sanatorium She kept a tab on the cat's progress and even walked barefoot to Mahim Dargah to implore for her revival Khan has adopted the cat and calls her Softy.
"The save of Softy shows that Khan's loveliness is much more than skin deep," said PETA movement coordinator Madhuri Deshmukh.
"We expect that her compassionate action will inspire others to always stop and render help when they see an creature in distress and to take on cats and dogs, not pay money for them," additional Deshmukh.
This award comes under PETA's 'Proud to Be Indian' campaign which encourages populace to rescue flora and fauna from the streets or adopt them from creature shelters.
