I haven't read a new Meg Cabot book in a few years. To be honest, I kind of stopped because of a tirade she went and posted on her blog about being sick of people telling her to read Twilight. It just came off as really unprofessional to me and I decided it was probably best to find another author. (Plus, I can't recall anything since Avalon High that I wanted to read by her!)


Hitting store shelves April 2011, 'Abandon' might be decent reading. It's always a hit or miss with me when it comes to Meg Cabot books. I loved Avalon High, but can't read The Princess Diaries. This is definitely a 'borrow from the library' title.

One of my favorite books of last year was Violet Haberdasher's 'Knightley Academy'. The sequel to that, entitled 'The Secret Prince', is due out June 2011! This is a 2011 release that I fully expect to buy within the first week of its release! I hope it's as addictive a read as 'Knightley Academy'!


The only downside thus far? I'm not sure if I'm a fan of the cover. It just doesn't look like it will fit well with my hardcover of the original novel... Thankfully, covers change like the weather, so it may change before the actual release! :-)

Due out March 2011, 'Beyonders: A World Without Heroes' by Brandon Mull looks to be a winner. Embarrassingly, I haven't actually read Mull's other series 'Fablehaven' yet, even though it's been on my to-read list for years! As you know, I tend to judge a book a bit by cover and I really like the cover on this post and the one on my arc, which features a crown.  I love the colors and the style of both covers, though!  Maybe I'll start with 'Beyonders' and see how that works out!

Author Richard Denning is coming to the blog early February to promote 'Tomorrow's Guardian'. This book, a time travel adventure reminiscent of DJ MacHale's 'Pendragon' series, is a fun read for 'inbetweeners'-- those kids who are just growing out of traditional Juvi books, but aren't ready for hardcore YA title. (I've started it already... Though I'm not done yet, so it still fits in with the S.O.S requirements!)


I've read time travel books before and typically get hooked by them. The perfect example being the before mentioned 'Pendragon' series. 'Tomorrow's Guardian' seems like it will be an exciting romp through time!  For more on this title, come back 2/8/11 for a review and a quick Q/A with the author!

Set for a July 2011 release, 'Wolfsbane' is the sequel to Andrea Cremer's hit debut novel 'Nightshade'. I don't think I'm in the minority in saying that 'Nightshade' was a fantastic read. I'm really looking forward to seeing what happens next! Maybe it will help me decide once and for all if I'm Team Ren or Team Shay! I hear they handed out ARC's at ALA Midwinter. None of my librarian friends ended up with any of them... *sigh* Guess I'll just have to wait a little longer!

Yep, that's it. That's all Goodreads could give me. One sentence with an ellipses! Thank goodness this book comes out in June 2011!!!! I loved 'Fallen', had a pretty hardcore love/hate relationship with 'Torment', and am totally hoping that 'Passion' by Lauren Kate is fantastic. I want to see more of Shelby and Miles, less of Daniel being all pushy and secretive, and most importantly, want to know more answers about why Luce is being chased down and what importance she really holds. These things, among other things, that is!


Before I go, I'd just like to mention one more thing-- the cover.  So pretty!  (surprise, surprise!)  I'm liking the choice to put a touch of color into the background. This cover falls in line really well with the previous books.  I hope it has that textured feeling on the cover when it comes out like the previous books, as well!!!

I accepted this book tour title because the concept of 'Blue' seemed a bit like it could have a 'Neverending Story' feel to it. I've always liked the idea of the fantasy characters interacting with human/real world characters. Because of the multiple main characters, it might even appeal to my YA/Juvi reading habits.

Taken from the only place I could find a blurb and edited to leave out a bit of spoilery material, here's a teeny tiny bit of info about 'Illusions' by Aprilynne Pike.  'Illusions' is the third book in the series that started with 'Wings' and continued with 'Spells'.

Once again, Laurel must turn to Tamani to protect and guide her, for the danger that now threatens Avalon is one that no faerie thought would ever be possible. I've enjoyed reading about Laurels entrance into the world of the Fae. The sequel had a few problems, but I can forgive them. I'm hoping 'Illusions' has something awesome going on. I'm looking for quick witted lines, a good even story, and a bit of romance (preferably between Tamani and Laurel)!


I was all set to go into how I hoped it would be a fantastic ending to a trilogy, but looking at Goodreads, I noticed that a fourth novel is also planned! I'm surprised she's going the non trilogy route! Will it work in her favor? I hope so.


This title comes out May 2011.

'Queen of the Dead' has a release date of June 2011 and holds a spot on my 'eager to read' list! If you read my review of 'The Ghost and the Goth', then you know that I quite enjoyed it. I hope that 'Queen of the Dead' holds the same enjoyment! This series is flying under the radar at the moment, but I think once we see this follow up tale hit store shelves, it will become as popular as it deserves to be!!!

With a release date of February 2011, 'Angelfire' is looking more and more like one of those books that is going to shine. It has good reviews so far on Goodreads and I've seen it in many a 'In My Mailbox' posts here in the book blogging world. (I only wish I was one of those bloggers! :p) Why do I want to read it?  Because angel fiction (apart from one horrible crossover between angels and vampires) has always interested me.  I predict that I'll enjoy this title!

I LOVED 'Hex Hall'. In fact, 'Hex Hall' is a top contender for best YA novel of 2010 (in my opinion). Everything-- action, romance, storyline-- just fit together SO WELL! 'Demonglass' (or 'Raising Demons' for UK readers), due out February 15th, 2011, has a lot to live up to because of that!!!


Reviews are already in on ARC's that a few lucky folks received and so far, though I haven't read any of the reviews in detail, it seems author Rachel Hawkins has another hit on her hands with 'Demonglass'. (Thank goodness!) 


Me, I can't wait to get my hands on this book and if for some reason I don't get it in ARC form, you bet I'll be in the bookstore February 15th looking for it!!

Claudia Gray's 'Evernight' series is one of those that I just fell into.  Funnily enough, it was my mom that kept me reading it.  She just plain enjoyed them so much that I had to continue.  I'm glad I did.  This series has turned out to be a great read.  It will come as no surprise that I'm looking forward to the conclusion, 'Afterlife', due on store shelves March 2011.


What do I expect?  I honestly couldn't tell you. At this point, the characters have taken so many paths I didn't expect that I've given up on guessing.  My fingers are crossed that the ending is happy and that we see more of Balthazar.  (He happens to be my favorite character of the bunch!)

This is the first book in a series and will be the first book I've read (or heard about on the YA market) that is set in the roaring twenties.  Who knows, maybe it will start a trend?

Due out on December 7th, 2010, 'Last Sacrifice' is the final book in Richelle Mead's Vampire Academy series. I was introduced to this series by a friend who said I 'had to read' them. It took years, but eventually, I DID pick up the series and haven't put it down since. There are various reviews of the books in the series here on the blog, for anyone interested. (Just click the tag below with Mead's name to pull them up!)  Also, I made up a fantasy cast a few months back, you should take a peek at!

The finale to this series is sure to be packed with romance, action, and some serious girl power! Here's a blurb, taken from Goodreads:

What do I want to see? Staying away from specific spoilers... I want to see Dimitri gone. Honestly, I just don't like the guy and never really have. Ohhh, I'd love to see more with Rose's dad. He's a great character.  I'd also like to see none of the main characters die. (Let's not have a repeat of 'Mockingjay', please!!!!!)

Quick bit of info here-- I collect dolls, mainly Skipper.  After too many years of inflated (outrageous, completely ridiculous) prices on the only Skipper doll price guide around, we finally have a second edition!  Released September 29th and now out of stock on Amazon.com (!!!), the 2nd edition of ‘Skipper- Barbie Doll’s Little Sister’ is here!  Put together by Trina Cottingham, Scott Arend, and Karla Hemingway, this book is roughly 250 pages long and looks to have a ton of information!

James Dashner's sequel to last years hit 'The Maze Runner' hits store shelves October 12th!  'The Maze Runner' introduced us to a new world with a lot of promise and the ending, well, what ending?  It left us with a cliffhanger equal to Angel's series finale.

Usually these sort of books more rooted in action don't keep my attention, but I want to stick with this series. It has great promise and seriously, after that cliffhanger, what else am I supposed to do!!!

I'm a dork when it comes to Star Wars.  I can quote all six movies, have read multiple expanded universe books, have a ball joined doll named Kyp and an Animal Crossing village called 'Falcon' (Millennium Falcon seemed too long for my town!), and attended CIV in Cali a few years back.  'The Jedi Path' is the perfect book for all us kids who grew up wanting to one day wake up with the Force.  

Authored by Daniel Wallace with a release date of September 28th, this book not only looks leather bound, but also comes with a fantastic vault to store it in!  To see the vault in action, watch the video located on Amazon.  Very neat, if you ask me!!!

S.O.S Book of the Week

The S.O.S Book of the Week is where I'll let you in on what new releases I'm looking forward to! S.O.S comes from the term 'Strict on Sale'. It's bookseller speak for a title that you can't sell before a specific date-- think Harry Potter. While the books I have here may not be S.O.S titles specifically, they are all new!

The S.O.S. Book of the Week is:

'Wired', the conclusion to Robin Wasserman's Skinned Trilogy, should be appearing on store shelves September 14th. I am quite looking forward to this release. Both 'Skinned' and 'Crashed' fell into my lap. It's one of those series that is easy to miss, not highly promoted, but one that is actually pretty darn good!

I'm hoping this has a fantastic conclusion, something in the lines of 'Hunger Games' or the 'Uglies' Trilogy. Something that turns the whole philosophy you thought you knew and loved/hated, and totally turns it on its head.  I'll let you know how it turns out!!!

The S.O.S. Book of the Week is:

August 31st saw the release of 'The Haunted' by Jessica Verday, sequel to last years supernatural romance 'The Hollow'. You may remember my review of that here. The overall storyline of the series is loosely based on 'The Headless Horseman' or at least takes place in Sleepy Hollow and includes some dead folks.

I'm hoping this sequel starts off a little quicker than the last and am looking forward to seeing more of Caspian.  'The Haunted' is definitely going on my hold list at the library!

While 'Mockingjay' would have been a great choice for this piece, I've already read it, so it doesn't fit the criteria.  Finished it in two sittings, though,  and loved it!  (I'll write a review for it later.  I'm still digesting it all!!!)

This weeks S.O.S. Book of the Week is:

'Monster High' by Lisi Harrison, release date September 7th, 2010, will be a first for me.  I've never read a 'Clique' novel, or any other 'Gossip Girl'-esc story for that matter. The reason I want to read this has all to do with the marketing, specifically the Monster High toy line.  You must have seen these dolls at a toy store near you by now.  Well, those dolls are the characters in this novel, minus the LA transfer student.

Will I love this title?  I highly doubt it.  However, I'd love to enjoy this novel for what it is-- a fun, popcorny toy tie-in.  Of course, when I do finally read this, you all will the be the first to know how it goes!!!
